CAPT. DANIEL ROBERTS, commander of a fighter squadron, led his group to the Rabaul attack. Captain Roberts returned safely from that mission only to be killed in combat over Finschafen a week later. Twenty-four years of age, he was officially credited with the destruction of 15 enemy warplanes. That score was established in only 11 weeks of action. |
